Old Age, I decided, is a gift.

I am now, probably for the first time in my life, the person I have always wanted to be.
I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I've aged, I've become more kind to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend.

I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avant garde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.

Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon?

I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60&70's, and if I, wish
I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set.
They, too, will get old.

I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things..

Sure, over the years my heart has been broken..
But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.

I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.

As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong.

So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become.

I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting about what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day. (If I feel like it)

[kgma] Peace education to be included in public school curriculum

MANILA (PNA) -- The Department of Education (DepEd) on Thursday said
peace education will now be part of public school curriculum as well
as teacher education.

This developed as DepEd enjoins other agencies and civil
representatives in the signing of the implementing rules and
regulation (IRR) for Executive Order 570, Institutionalizing Peace
Education in Basic Education and Teacher Education.

"DepEd will incorporate peace education where it matters because we
believe in the power of education to change the mindset of people
towards peace," Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said.

The inter-agency Technical Working Group (TWG), composed of the Office
of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), DepEd,
Commission on Higher Education (CHED), National Economic Development
Authority (NEDA) and civil society representatives, helped draft the IRR.

The TWG has refined the IRR draft after two major consultations: the
Mindanao-wide Consultation on Peace Education, organized by the
Mindanao Peace Education Forum (MinPEF) and the National Consultation
Workshop on EO 570, organized by OPAPP and TWG.

DepEd and OPAPP have earlier developed elementary and high school
peace education exemplars as a way of mainstreaming peace education in
the basic formal and non-formal education curriculum.

Lapus assured that instructional materials will also be developed,
produced, and disseminated as additional tools while the adaptation
and adoption of video peace modules through a series of workshops will
also be strengthened.

According to EO 570, DepEd will serve as co-chair of the coordinating
structure. It will spearhead the mainstreaming peace education
concepts, skills and values in the learning content of the basic
education and alternative learning systems (ALS).

It is tasked to encourage and nurture local peace initiatives in
schools, ALS local systems and communities and to organize peace
education learning circles/teams in the region, division and school level.

"The peace problems are very complex and no one has all the answers.
However, everyone can do something in his or her little way to bring
us a step closer to the attainment of peace," he stressed.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) shall introduce
and institutionalize peace education among teachers through
pre-service and in-service training. (PNA)

Pope celebrates last WYD mass
SYDNEY (UPI) -- Pope Benedict XVI addressed 500,000 people Sunday morning at the final mass of World Youth Day in Australia.

The pope urged young people to consider the religious life, The Sydney Telegraph reported.

"The world needs this renewal," he said. "In so many of our societies, side by side with material prosperity, a spiritual desert is spreading, an interior emptiness, an unnamed fear, a quiet sense of despair."

Pilgrims packed Randwick Racecourse and spread into Centennial Park beyond. Many in the crowd had camped at the racecourse overnight after walking across Sydney and attending an evening vigil led by Benedict Saturday.

The young people were in a joyous mood as they walked through the city and over the Harbor Bridge. Some chanted "Benedetto, Benedetto," using the pope's Italian name.

Benedict, after leading a large mass Thursday, spent much of Friday and Saturday in smaller meetings. He talked to leaders from other Christian churches and other religions, met with a group of teenagers dealing with problems like homelessness and drug abuse and apologized for clergy sex abuse, at a meeting at St. Mary's Cathedral that was mostly for members of religious orders and priests.

There were 3 good arguments that Jesus was Black:

1. He called everyone brother

2. He liked Gospel

3. He didn't get a fair trial

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Jewish:

1. He went into His Father's business

2. He lived at home until he was 33

3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin and his Motherwas sure He was God

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Italian:

1. He talked with His hands

2. He had wine with His meals

3. He used olive oil

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a Californian:

1. He never cut His hair

2. He walked around barefoot all the time

3. He started a new religion

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was an American Indian:

1. He was at peace with nature

2. He ate a lot of fish

3. He talked about the Great Spirit

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Irish:

1. He never got married.

2. He was always telling stories.

3. He loved green pastures.

But the most compelling evidence of all - 3 proofs that Jesus was a woman:

1. He fed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was virtually no food

2. He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it

3. And even when He was dead, He had to get up because there was still work to do

An Atheist Professor of Philosophy speaks to his Class on the Problem Science has with GOD, the ALMIGHTY.

He asks one of his New Christian Students to stand and . . .

Professor : You are a Christian, aren't you, son?
Student : Yes, sir.
Professor : So you Believe in GOD ?
Student : Absolutely, sir.
Professor : Is GOD Good ?
Student : Sure.
Professor : Is GOD ALL - POWERFUL ?
Student : Yes.
Professor : My Brother died of Cancer even though he Prayed to GOD
to Heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others
who are ill. But GOD didn't. How is this GOD good then? Hmm?

( Student is silent )

Professor : You can't answer, can you ?
Let's start again, Young Fella.
Is GOD Good?
Student : Yes.
Professor : Is Satan good ?
Student : No.
Professor : Where does Satan come from ?
Student : From . . . GOD .. . .
Professor : That's right.
Tell me son, is there evil in this World?
Student : Yes.
Professor : Evil is everywhere, isn't it ?
And GOD did make everything. Correct?
Student : Yes.
Professor : So who created evil ?

(Student does not answer)

Professor : Is there Sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness?
All these terrible things exist in the World, don't they?
Student : Yes, sir.
Professor : So, who Created them ?

( Student has no answer )

Professor : Science says you have 5 Senses you use to Identify and Observe
the World around you.
Tell me, son . . . Have you ever Seen GOD?
Student : No, sir.
Professor : Tell us if you have ever Heard your GOD?
Student : No , sir.
Professor : Have you ever Felt your GOD, Tasted your GOD, Smelt your GOD?
Have you ever had any Sensory Perception of GOD for that matter?
Student : No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.
Professor : Yet you still Believe in HIM?
Student : Yes.
Professor : According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol,
Science says your GOD doesn't exist.
What do you say to that, son?
Student : Nothing. I only have my Faith.
Professor : Yes, Faith. And that is the Problem Science has.
Student : Professor, is there such a thing as Heat?
Professor : Yes..
Student : And is there such a thing as Cold?
Professor : Yes.
Student : No sir. There isn't.

( The Lecture Theater becomes very quiet with this turn of events )

Student : Sir, you can have Lots of Heat, even More Heat, Super heat,
a Little Heat or No Heat...
But we don't have anything called Cold.
We can hit 458 degrees below Zero which is No Heat,
but we can't go any further after that.
There is no such thing as Cold.
Cold is only a Word we use to describe the absence of heat.
We cannot Measure Cold.
Heat is Energy. Cold is Not the Opposite of Heat, sir,
just the Absence of heat.

( There is Pin - Drop Silence in the Lecture Theater )

Student : What about Darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as Darkness?
Professor : Yes. What is Night if there isn't Darkness?
Student : You're wrong again, sir.
Darkness is the Absence of Something bright.
You can have Low Light, Normal Light, Bright Light, Flashing Light...
But if you have No Light constantly, you have nothing
and its called darkness, isn't it?
In reality, Darkness isn't.
If it is, you would be able to make Darkness Darker, wouldn't you?
Professor : So what is the point you are making, Young Man ?
Student : Sir, my point is your Philosophical Premise is flawed.
Professor : Flawed ? Can you explain how?
Student : Sir, you are working on the Premise of Duality.
You argue there is Life and then there is Death,
a Good God and a Bad God.
You are viewing the Concept of GOD as something finite,
something we can measure.
Sir, Science can't even explain a Thought.
It uses Electricity and Magnetism, but has never seen,
much less fully understood either one.
To view Death as the Opposite of Life is to be ignorant of the fact
that Death cannot exist as a Substantive Thing.
Death is Not the Opposite of Life: just the Absence of it.
Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your Students
that they evolved from a Monkey?
Professor : If you are referring to the Natural Evolutionary Process,
yes, of course, I do.
Student : Have you ever observed Evolution with your own eyes, sir?

( The Professor shakes his head with a Smile, beginning to realize where the Argument is going )

Student : Since no one has ever observed the Process of Evolution at work
and cannot even prove that this Process is an On - Going Endeavor,
Are you not teaching your Opinion, sir?
Are you not a Scientist but a Preacher?

( The Class is in Uproar )

Student : Is there anyone in the Class who has ever seen the Professor's Brain?

( The Class breaks out into Laughter )

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's Brain?
Felt it, touched or Smelt it? . . .
No one appears to have done so.
So, according to the Established Rules of Empirical, Stable,
Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that you have No Brain, sir.
With all due respect, sir, how do we then Trust your Lectures, sir?

(The Room is Silent. The Professor stares at the Student, his face unfathomable. )

Professor : I guess you'll have to take them on Faith, son.
Student : That is it sir . . .
The Link between Man & GOD is FAITH.
That is all that Keeps Things Moving & Alive.

I believe you have enjoyed the Conversation . . . and if so . . .
You'll probably want your Friends / Colleagues to enjoy the same . . . won't you?
Forward them to Increase their Knowledge . . . or FAITH.
It turned out later that the student is Albert Einstein.

PGMA declares Sept. 12 as Nat’l Day of Prayer & Reconciliation

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has declared Sept. 12, 2008 as a
National Day of Prayer for Peace and Reconciliation of our nation.

In Proclamation No. 1555, the President said the promotion of peace
and unity among the Filipino people remains to be one of the highest
goals of the government.

Stressing the urgency for the “National Day of Prayer for Peace and
Reconciliation, the President said, “Our country is facing several
challenges, which require the steadfast devotion of every Filipino to
work for the common good and for the betterment of our country, adding
that such a special day may serve to promote the attainment of our
national goals.”

She then called on the nation to look inward “in order to make
reaffirmation of our commitment to promote the attainment of this
goal, through personal reflection, change in attitudes, and solidarity
for the public welfare and the development of our country.”

These are Science, not Ghostwritings.

I do not intend to offend your sensibilities on your spirituality.

These are a compilation of the study of the discovery of the elements present in the world that have been discovered and some invented. I am a Filipina-Chinese-American who helped the Marshall Islands become a Republic. The Philippines is a Republic. so is the United States of America.

There is a lot of work to be done for the good of humanity.

St. Theresa's Prayer---thanks Bernie Qua

Saint Theresa's Prayer

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilitie s that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.
